Mastering Your Thinking and Learning Style: A Guide for Students of Knowledge🖋️

Image
“Whoever treads a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him the path to Paradise.” — Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Muslim) One of the most powerful tools in the pursuit of knowledge is self-awareness . Knowing how your mind gathers, processes, and organizes information allows you to study more efficiently, remember more deeply, and grow more consistently. In both Islamic and secular education, this awareness can distinguish between passive learning and truly transformative understanding. There are many theories of thinking and learning styles, but most of them can be distilled into three interconnected components: perception , processing , and presentation of information. Let’s explore each in depth and learn how to apply them in a way that benefits you as a dedicated student of knowledge. 1. The Way You Perceive Information: Engaging the Senses Perception is how you take in knowledge from the world. Allah has blessed us with five senses—sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. ...

The Four Sacred Months in Islam: Virtues, Rulings, and Acts of Worship

Image
Introduction Islam organizes time with spiritual wisdom, designating certain months and days with special virtues and rulings. Among the twelve months of the Islamic lunar calendar, four are described by Allah ﷻ as "sacred" (الأشهر الحرم). Their sacredness predates Islam and was acknowledged and preserved by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. These months are not only honoured historically but hold lasting implications for Muslim conduct, worship, and communal ethics. "Indeed, the number of months with Allah is twelve [lunar] months in the register of Allah from the day He created the heavens and the earth; of these, four are sacred. That is the correct religion, so do not wrong yourselves during them..." — Surah At-Tawbah (9:36)   What Are the Four Sacred Months? The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ clarified the identity of these months in his Farewell Sermon: “The year is twelve months, of which four are sacred: three consecutive months— Dhul-Qa‘dah , Dhul-Hijjah , and Muharram —a...

“Swimming in the Prophetic Tradition: A Reflection on Physical Excellence and Holistic Development in Islam”

Image
Introduction Islam is a religion of balance—between the soul and the body, the dunya and the akhirah, the heart and the limbs. It recognizes that human beings are not merely spiritual creatures, but also physical ones, in need of nourishment, movement, and care. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , as the best role model for humanity, demonstrated this balance in every aspect of his life. While much attention is often given to his acts of worship and moral teachings, the physical habits and recommendations of the Prophet ﷺ are equally instructive. Among these is the encouragement of swimming, an activity he implicitly promoted as part of the ideal Islamic upbringing. Though direct reports of the Prophet ﷺ engaging in swimming are rare, the encouragement of swimming appears in various narrations, and Islamic scholars have long recognized the role of physical strength in the pursuit of faith and excellence.  Section I: Prophetic Encouragement of Swimming The famous narration attribut...

A beautiful Wise Words✨

Image
It said; My Ustadh told me something one evening that completely shifted the way I viewed hardship. We were talking about setbacks - missed opportunities, closed doors, things that just didn't go our way. Someone had just shared how they didn't get into a job they're really passionate about. You could see the weight in their voice. Disappointment laced every word. That's when Ustadh said: "You know the story of Musa and Khidr?" We all nodded. He said: "Everyone loves the part where Khidr explains why he broke the boat, killed the boy, and rebuilt the wall. Because suddenly, the pain makes sense. The confusion becomes clarity. But do you realise something?" He paused. "Musa only got the explanation because it was a lesson. The people who owned the boat, the parents of that child, the town that rejected them-they never got told. They just had to live with what happened." The room was quiet. Then he said: "Sometimes in life, you don...

From Mukhlis to Mukhlas: The Journey of Sincerity in the Qur’an 🌸

Image
Introduction Sincerity ( ikhlas ) lies at the heart of the Islamic faith. It is the first condition for the acceptance of deeds and the key to the soul’s journey toward Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said: “ Indeed, actions are only by intentions, and every person shall have what they intended.” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)   Sincerity purifies one's heart from showing off (riya’), pride, and seeking validation from others. Yet in the Qur’an, Allah distinguishes between two categories of sincere servants: those who strive for sincerity ( al-Mukhlisin ), and those who are purified and chosen by Allah ( al-Mukhlasin ). Understanding the difference between these two concepts offers deep insight into human effort and divine grace. The Linguistic Distinction: Mukhlis vs. Mukhlas Both Mukhlis ( مُخْلِص ) and Mukhlas ( مُخْلَص ) come from the same triliteral root: خ - ل - ص , which connotes purity, clarity, and exclusiveness. Mukhlis : The active participle , meaning one who ...

The Golden Advice Regarding The Proper Manner Of Learning The Arabic Language❤

Image
In the Name of Allâh, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful By Abu 'Umar al-Jurjaani All praise is for Allah. We praise him and seek his assistance. May the salah and salam be upon the messenger of Allah and all those who follow the prophetic path until the last day. Amma ba’d: Many brothers have asked me about learning the Arabic language and the best way to arrive at an understanding of the qur’an and sunnah. In response to these brothers I put this small essay together. May Allah grant us ikhlaas and sucsess in our efforts. Some of the salaf used to say, “man dakhala fil ilm jumlatan, kharaja minhu jumlatan.” “Whoever entered into knowledge all at once, it shall leave him all at once.” It is binding upon the student of any subject to gain an understanding and basic conception of what exactly he/she is studying.  In Arabic this is called ‘tasawwur’. The lack of a proper ‘tasawwur’ concerning the method of learning Arabic is perhaps the biggest problem facing those that attempt t...

On That Which Tongues Shall Utter and Hearts Believe of the Obligatory Religious Affairs 🌸

Imam Aboo Muhammad Abdullaah ibn Abee Zayd al-Qayrawaanee al-Malikee (312-389 AH) "Ar-Risaalah", also known as "Bakurah as-Sa`d" (the First Fruit of Happiness) [Translated by Bello Muhammed Daura (MA Classical Arabic, SOAS London), fwd. By Dr. A.R. Doi  Notes: Arabic transliteration is added where important, or where the English translation was not the best. The following is from one of the most famous Malikee texts, written over a thousand years ago (in 329 AH). That includes having faith at heart and uttering with the tongue that Allah is the one God and that there is no other god apart from Him. There is none similar to Him (wa laa shaabeeha lahu), and He has no equal. He has no son, father or wife. Besides, He has no associates. His earlier existence had no beginning and His future existence shall have no end. His true nature cannot be described by anyone, nor can thinkers imagine that nature. To know Him one considers His signs (aayaat), but one does not thin...
